Ask for your open deals
Get an accurate open-pipeline answer from ChatGPT or Claude through the Vertiqa connection, including why a raw "open deals" count can differ from the Deals board.
"Show me open deals" is the first thing most people ask a connected assistant, and it works. This article covers how to phrase it so the number matches what you see in Vertiqa, and how to slice it once you have it.
The short version
Using Vertiqa, show me my open opportunities. Include deal name, account,
value, owner, pipeline, and current stage, sorted by value. Do not change
anything.
Adding Do not change anything keeps the answer read-only. Naming the fields you want stops the assistant from returning a shape you then have to ask it to redo.
Make the number match your Deals board
Vertiqa keeps leads and deals in the same kind of record, separated by which pipeline they sit in. Leads shows records in lead-type pipelines and Deals shows records in opportunity-type pipelines, so a plain "open opportunities" request over the connection can return more rows than the Deals board does — it does not know which board you had in mind.
To pin it to the Deals board:
Using Vertiqa, first list my pipelines whose entity type is opportunity. Then
list open opportunities in only those pipelines. Give me name, account, value,
owner, and stage. Do not change anything.
Use the same shape with lead pipelines when you want the lead side instead. If you only work one pipeline, naming it directly is simpler:
Using Vertiqa, show me every open deal in the Sales pipeline with its stage and
value. Do not change anything.
What comes back for each deal
Each deal carries its own pipeline and stage, so the assistant can tell you the current state without replaying history:
| Field | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Name, value, currency | The headline list |
| Account and contact | Who the deal belongs to |
| Pipeline and stage | Where it sits right now |
| Status | open, won, or lost |
| Expected close date | Forecast questions |
| Owner | Grouping by rep |
| Last activity date | Finding stalled work |
| Created and updated dates | Age and recency |
Useful follow-ups
Stalled deals:
Which of those open deals have had no activity in the last 14 days? Group them
by owner, oldest first. Do not change anything.
One stage only:
Using Vertiqa, list the pipeline stages for the Sales pipeline, then show me
the open deals sitting in Proposal with their value and expected close date. Do
not change anything.
A close-date view:
Show my open deals with an expected close date in the next 30 days, total the
value, and flag any without a close date set. Do not change anything.
Moving one, with a confirmation step:
Move the Acme Expansion deal to the Proposal stage. Show me the exact deal and
destination stage first and wait for my confirmation.
If the answer looks wrong
- More rows than the Deals board — the request was not scoped to opportunity-type pipelines. Use the pipeline-scoped prompt above.
- Fewer rows than expected — the list was paged. Ask for a larger limit or say "keep going until you have them all."
- An organization question comes back first — you belong to more than one Vertiqa organization. Name it and ask again.
