Get paid online from an invoice
Connect Stripe or add your own checkout link so every emailed invoice carries a Pay button, then see when the customer pays.
Online invoice payments put a link to a secure invoice page in every invoice you email. Your customer opens it, sees what they owe, downloads the PDF if they want it, and pays: by card through your own connected Stripe account, or on your own payment page with Stripe, Square, PayPal, Venmo or LawPay. Vertiqa never handles the card or the money.
Set up payments (once)
You need permission to edit settings. Go to Settings → Invoices & payments and do either or both:
- Connect Stripe, so customers pay the exact amount by card and the invoice is marked paid automatically.
- Paste Your checkout link, a link from your own processor that lets the customer enter the amount, such as a Stripe Payment Link set to Customer chooses price. Select Save online payments. Remove link turns that Pay button off again. While Stripe is connected and ready, the Pay button uses Stripe; the link is the fallback.
See Invoices & payments for each setting.
Until Stripe is ready or a link is saved, invoices still go out with the online invoice page — customers can view and download it, but can't pay from it. The invoice page shows "Customers can view this invoice online but cannot pay from it yet" with a Set up online payments shortcut.
What your customer sees
When you Send an invoice, the email and PDF include the link. On the invoice page your customer can:
- See the amount due and the Pay button first, then the full invoice: dates, PO number, who it's billed to, service location and period, lines, payments received, how to pay, and who to contact.
- Copy amount and Copy invoice number, to paste into your checkout page.
- Tap Continue to payment (or Pay on Venmo) to go to your checkout.
- Download invoice PDF. If many people download at once, the page asks them to try again in a minute.
Every invoice page and PDF carries a fixed line telling your customer to check any request to change how they pay with you, using contact details they already trust.
Track and record the payment
On the invoice in Vertiqa:
- The Payment link card shows the customer's current link, with Copy for sending it another way (a text, a chat).
- Under Record Payment you'll see when the customer opened the link and clicked Pay, so you know whether to expect money or follow up.
- A card payment through your connected Stripe account marks the invoice paid on its own.
- For a checkout link, when the money arrives in your processor, record the payment with the method Pay link. A double-click or a retry on a slow connection won't record it twice.
Payments made through a checkout link are not recorded automatically — check your processor and record them, just like a check.
Send a fresh link
Customer lost the email, or the link expired? Click Send new link on the invoice. A new link is emailed and earlier links to this invoice stop working, so an old forwarded email can't be used.
